Amoeba Music Earns Platinum recycLA Star Recognition

Congratulations to Amoeba Music for being awarded a Platinum recycLA Star by the Los Angeles Board of Public Works. Amoeba is setting a powerful example for Los Angeles businesses by incorporating environmentally sustainable practices into daily operations.

Known as the largest independent music store in the world, Amoeba operates locations in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Los Angeles.

Improving Waste Diversion Through recycLA

As their recycLA service provider, Athens Services conducted a waste assessment and implemented recommendations that increased Amoeba’s waste diversion rate from 61.5% to 75%.

Sustainability Practices at Amoeba Music

Amoeba prioritizes reuse and recycling through several impactful initiatives:

• Discourages single-use plastics by offering reusable serving ware and filtered water.
• Provides a dedicated area for separating paper and plastic from CD/DVD cases.
• Maintains an on-site carpenter workstation to repurpose materials into furniture.
• Trains employees to properly separate recycling and landfill waste.
• Operates a designated room for electronic waste disposal.
• Donates reusable items to the community to ensure maximum reuse value.

The recycLA program is a public-private partnership launched by the City of Los Angeles to provide efficient and customer-friendly waste and recycling services for businesses, institutions, and multifamily properties.

The recycLA Star program recognizes organizations that actively participate in recycling, landfill diversion, and food recovery efforts.
