The COVID-19 virus has stopped the world around us. Streets are empty, schools are closed, and many businesses are at a standstill. Yet, our essential service workers continue marching on. Athens Services thanks them all for their relentless work in our communities, from medical workers, to first responders, deliverymen and women, grocery store employees, and all sanitation workers.
As an essential service provider, Athens Services continues to provide uninterrupted service to our communities in the midst of a pandemic. We are able to do so because we have great people who are committed to doing everything possible to keep our community healthy and clean every day.
Athens is more than a waste collection company; we are part of the community. We believe that everyone has a responsibility to do everything possible to keep each other safe and healthy, especially now.
We all have an important role to play to help stop the spread of COVID-19, from maintaining social distance, to frequently and thoroughly washing your hands, and staying safer-at-home, and when necessary wearing masks in public.
Athens believes in creating a Healthier Environment with Athens Recycling Training (HEART) for our customers. Here are some safety tips you can take to help keep you and your sanitation workers safe.
- Bag trash – This protects sanitation workers from viruses and bacteria. It is a good practice to do always, but it is critically essential now.
- Empty liquids – Liquids carry viruses and bacteria that can splash onto drivers during service. Empty bottles, cans, and other containers to reduce the risk of infection.
- Disinfect containers – Wipe down and disinfect your container handles and lids. Those are the main touch points for our sanitation workers. Wiping with disinfectant or soapy water can minimize risk.
The world has changed. Moving forward, we all have a social responsibility to adapt to the new norms. Today, it is critically important that we work together to keep our communities safe and healthy.
Although things are changing, you can rest assured that we will do our part to keep our employees safe, while continuing to provide the essential service that keeps our environment healthy.
