Waste and recycling professionals work hard every day to protect the environment for all of us. We’ve all seen the drivers who collect our waste and recycling, but there are many more workers behind the scenes. All of them deserve our thanks for the work they do.

Athens Services Spotlights Three Trailblazing Women in Waste

Athens Services proudly recognizes Liz Soria, Rondi Guthrie, and Gabby Munoz during Women’s History Month.

Women’s History Month is a time to reflect on the impact and contributions that women have made in our society. While the waste industry has been traditionally viewed as a male-dominated space, women are making their mark and paving the way for others to follow. At Athens Services, we are proud to have resilient and trailblazing women on our team who get the job done.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we are spotlighting a few women who are superstars at what they do.

Athens Team Member since 2020

Elizabeth “Liz” Soria is a testament to the power of hard work and determination. Liz started her career at Athens Services as a transfer truck driver, and over the years, she has worked her way up the ranks to become an operator of three heavy equipment vehicles at the Mid-Valley Landfill in San Bernardino County. Liz is now an expert in operating an excavator, haul truck, and a compactor.

As a woman in an industry dominated by men, Liz understands the importance of representation and breaking down barriers. “Not a lot of women do this job, so you feel powerful in an industry dominated by men,” said Liz. “We can do anything men can do.”

Liz finds her role to be incredibly fulfilling, and she encourages other women to consider a career in the waste and recycling industry. She believes that there is immense potential for growth and advancement in this field, and that women have a valuable contribution to make.

She lives in Colson with her soon-to-be 10-year-old son John and enjoys cooking in her free time.
