Celebrating National Night Out Alongside Communities and Police Departments

Communities throughout Los Angeles County gathered with local police departments, sheriff’s stations, and first responders to observe National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2. Athens Services was pleased to support and participate in several of these events.

National Night Out was launched in 1984 as an annual community-building campaign to promote public safety and neighborhood community partnerships.

Communities where Athens participated included Azusa, Monrovia, Rosemead, and West Hollywood.

Team members provided free compost, recycling quizzes, and coloring books for elementary school students. View photos from the events here.

In Azusa, residents enjoyed raffles, free food, and live mariachi music. There also was a vaccine clinic and attendees participated in a walk around City Hall. Azusa Mayor Robert Gonzales and a representative of State Assemblymember Blanca Rubio recognized law enforcement and first responders.

Similar festivities were held in Monrovia and Rosemead at city parks. West Hollywood went all out and held several events such as block parties, barbecues, and live entertainment throughout the city.

National Night Out has grown to involve 38 million people in 16,000 communities in all 50 states and U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

“Athens Services has a long history of supporting and partnering with law enforcement agencies and first responders in the communities we serve,” said Executive Vice President Gary Clifford, a retired law enforcement officer. “Athens is pleased to partner with local agencies to promote public safety.”National Night Out events will continue throughout the week, so keep an eye out for an Athens booth at Whittier and South El Monte events on Thursday evening, August 4, and in Glendora on Saturday morning, August 6.
