Athens Team Members Say Thank You to Our Public Works Partners
In celebration of National Public Works Week in May, Athens took the opportunity to thank their public works counterparts for their great partnership.
The weeklong event aims to recognize city employees and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives. The work of planning, building, managing, and operating facilities and services are at the heart of serving local communities to enhance the everyday quality of life.
Athens hosted events throughout the month, serving barbecue lunches at public works department yards and city parks.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate our partnerships with the public works teams. We see Athens as an extension of the public works departments. We rely on each other to meet their constituents’ needs, and we want to thank them for helping us do our job,” said Athens Government Affairs Director Daniela Ojeda.
In Whittier, Athens hosted a “touch a truck” event and invited schools to send students to see a collection truck up close. Monterey Park hosted a fair open to the public, and South El Monte held its first event this year at a park across the street from its public works department. Athens hosted barbecues for several city public works departments, including Azusa, Rosemead, San Gabriel, and Bell Gardens.
“Athens has been a good partner for Bell Gardens, and we appreciate the event they held for our employees,” said Bell Gardens Director of Public Works Grissel Chavez.
Athens values the collaborative efforts of our public works partners. We thank them for all they do to make providing high-quality service to communities possible.
