In celebration of Earth Day, Athens Services team members grabbed trash picks and did their part in “Keeping Whittier Prettier” during the city’s annual cleanup of the Greenway Trail. Along with the Whittier Police and Parks and Recreation departments, Athens helped beautify one of Whittier’s most frequented trails. Filled with flowers and luscious greenery, the 4.5-mile trail is a popular destination for bike riding, walking, and jogging.
Participants of all ages had a blast while giving back to the community. Eleven Athens team members took part; some even made the cleanup a family event by bringing along family members. At the end of the cleanup, an Athens truck hauled away all the trash collected by volunteers.
“It’s more than just collecting garbage – it’s also about being a part of the community,” said Division Vice President David Collins. “We all need to do our part for Mother Earth.”
Overall, this was a successful event, and the Greenway Trail looked magnificent. For Athens, it is a fundamental principle that we get involved in our communities beyond the delivery of service. The partnerships between Athens and the communities we serve benefit everyone.
“Athens is so helpful; at every event we do, you always show up,” said Whittier Police Officer Thomas Mattson.
We cherish our relationship with Whittier and want to help beautify the city in any way we can. Thank you to our Whittier partners for inviting Athens to help make a difference in the community.
