Roll-Off Driver Julio Salazar
Julio Salazar has been part of the Athens family for nearly 20 years. He started his career as a Scout Driver in South Pasadena and has since worked his way up to a Roll-Off Driver servicing the City of Monterey Park.
His favorite part of the job is working with great people. Over the years, Julio has grown very close to his team and has found himself inspired by and in awe of their tenure with Athens. For him, it is rewarding to see some of his fellow drivers reach their goal of retirement after spending 30 and even 40 years with the company.
“The job can be challenging at times, but to see them after so many years still doing great—it’s inspiring,” said Julio.
While the job is not always easy, Julio enjoys the work. He does admit that dealing with the rain is probably one of the biggest challenges.
“It’s not hard [working in the rain], but you do need to be more cautious,” said Julio. Safety is especially important for drivers during inclement weather, so there is an extra emphasis on proper operating procedures when it rains.
Julio resides in Huntington Park with his wife of 31 years, Tina.
“I think she has the hardest job,” says Julio. “Thanks to her, my kids are who they are. She is a very good mom and a very good wife.”
The couple have three children, their son Julio (31) and their two daughters, Natalie (27) and Danielle (24). They also have a few furry friends—two Maltese puppies and a Pitbull mix. In his free time, Julio enjoys going to Dodger games with his youngest daughter.
Julio is grateful to Athens for giving him the opportunity to care for his family and the ability to purchase their home. He hopes to retire sometime in the next 10 years.
