Finding a Long-Lasting Career at Athens Services

In 2016, Nick Ainza joined Athens Services’ American Organics composting facility in Victorville as a temporary laborer. After just four months on the job, he was hired on full-time. Nick is now a Lead Operator where his primary responsibilities involve ensuring the facility operates at its peak performance and stepping in wherever necessary. From training his fellow team members to working with heavy machinery, Nick does it all.

“He brings his knowledge and experience to help improve operations and make the yard a safer and more efficient place,” said Operations Supervisor Jeremy Burklin.

Prior to joining the Athens family, Nick had never worked in the waste and recycling industry but was eager for a change.

“I appreciated the family-like atmosphere. I wanted to be a part of that and to work in an industry and an organization that had stability,” said Nick. “It was also a great opportunity to learn new skills in a new field.”

Since joining the Athens team, Nick has excelled and found great joy in what he does.

“It has been an eventful journey,” said Nick. “I love that every day is a little different which keeps things interesting.”

Nick’s growth and leadership has not gone unnoticed and helps set a standard for the facility as a whole.

“He has always been a leader for the facility. I have seen him embrace his role and not just lead, but inspire our team here at American Organics,” said Jeremy. “He has been instrumental in helping us make this yard something we can truly be proud of.”

Looking ahead, Nick sees a promising future with Athens to continue his growth and eventually retire. He encourages anyone looking for a career change to consider applying to Athens.

“Give it a shot,” said Nick. “Athens has shown me that the sky is the limit.”

Nick currently resides in Victorville with his fiancé, Crystal, and their three children, Mia (9), Nyla (8) and Ryker (3). In his free time, Nick enjoys mountain biking, skateboarding, off-roading, and fishing.
