Nine years ago, Edgar Rodriguez Figueroa joined the Athens team as a Helper, and his journey has been nothing short of inspiring. With the company’s support, Edgar pursued his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at GSF Truck & Bus Driving School, rapidly advancing from Spare Driver to Commercial Driver. Initially serving the Palos Verdes Estates area, he has spent the past six years as a Residential Driver for Redondo Beach on Route 325, skillfully navigating a Curotto-Can to collect trash and recycling and keep the South Bay city clean.
Edgar’s dedication goes beyond the daily duties of his role. “They take care of me, and I take care of them,” he explains, underscoring the mutual respect he shares with the residents. Yet, it’s the children who truly capture his heart. “Every time I pass by, the kids – bundled up in their blankets – come out to wave at me, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face.”
Before entering the waste and recycling industry, Edgar worked in retail while seeking a more stable career to support his family. Today, he is immensely grateful for the opportunities Athens has provided and looks forward to continuing his growth with the company.
Edgar lives in Torrance with his wife, Samantha. The couple, together for 11 years, share a son, Isaiah (9), with another baby on the way. In his spare time, Edgar enjoys hitting the gym, cheering on Isaiah at soccer games, and following Atlas FC and Los Angeles FC.
