Lead Mechanic Continues His Family Footprint at Athens Services

Waste and recycling professionals work hard every day to protect the environment for all of us. We’ve all seen the drivers who collect our waste and recycling, but there are many more workers behind the scenes. All of them deserve our thanks for the work they do.

Lead Mechanic Continues His Family Footprint at Athens Services

David Dominguez Jr. is proud to be a part of an organization that not only shares his family values, but has helped him excel in his career.

David Dominguez Jr. has dedicated 33 years to the waste industry and currently serves as a Lead Mechanic for Athens Services’ Riverside Yard. In this role, he supports his team members with repairs and provides assistance to Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Paul Rizo whenever needed.

The waste and recycling industry is a strong part of the Dominguez family legacy, with David’s two brothers also serving as valued members of the Athens team: Rudy Dominguez, a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor at Vincent, and Salvador Dominguez, a Lead Mechanic at Salt Lake.

The Dominguez brothers were inspired to pursue careers in the waste industry by their father, David Dominguez Sr., who retired as a Shop Manager for Athens in 2018.

“Athens being a family-owned business and so family-oriented felt more comforting,” David Jr. shared when reflecting on his decision to join the company.

Over his 17 years at Athens, David has cherished the opportunities to work alongside his family and the countless chances for personal and professional growth.

“I’ve been through different positions in Athens and have learned a lot,” said David. “Every day is a new adventure that challenges me to learn more and improve myself.”

David resides in Rialto with his wife of 29 years, Candy. The couple shares five children: Cassandra (33), Priscilla (29), Christina (27), Jazmyne (24), David (22), and four grandchildren: Jaiden (12), Leilani (10), Priscilla (7), and Jazstina (6).

In his free time, David enjoys off roading in his 4-seat RZR, and going on camping trips with his family. He plans to retire with Athens and encourages anyone considering a career in the waste and recycling industry to join the team.

“This career is stable and enduring. At Athens there’s always room to grow,” said David.
