Throughout her 17-year waste industry career, Liz has actively driven her own professional growth, creating pathways to advancement through continuous self-improvement and initiative. She first started as a receptionist, gaining experience with proposal development, drafting meeting agendas, and providing customer service support. This early experience ultimately led her to join Athens’ customer service team 11 years ago, which later led to a role as a Customer Service Trainer.
One of Liz’s proudest achievements was creating Athens’ first Customer Service onboarding curriculum—a training program that remains in use today. Her passion for ongoing professional development paved the way for her to become the first member of Athens’ Talent and Development team, where she continues to create opportunities and resources for team members to enhance their skills.
“I never initially thought about working in the waste industry, but having the right mentors and opportunities led me here—and I’m forever grateful,” Liz reflects. “It has been a great experience. I couldn’t ask for anything more and I’m proud of this journey I’m on. My career here has been so rewarding; I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
As a testament to the success of women in the industry, Liz encourages others to embrace opportunities with confidence.
